One day in 2020, in a quiet beachside town in Far North Queensland, a lone ESL teacher looked despondently around his staff room for someone to whom he could whinge. Just a moment before, when thinking about the topics he would be teaching the next day, he had happily realised that they allowed for him to use one of his favourite activities. One that he already had in a drawer somewhere, all cut up and ready to go.

Realising, and not for the first time, that the "drawer somewhere" was more likely a "bin somewhere", he instinctively looked up hoping to see Pete, his favourite person to moan at. Pete wasn't there. Nobody was. Pandemics can have that effect on language schools.

Nobody to blame but himself, and nobody else to agree with him. Resigned to the fact that he would just have to print it off again, cut it up again, intend to keep it again, and probably at some point in the future lose it again, he made his way to his computer.

It was only a simple game with some prompts written on different cards. It seemed unnecessary that it even needed to be on fiddly, messy, losable bits of paper anyway. People had phones. Surely it would be possible to have the same game on a website. Teacher pops one of those QR code thingemies on the projector and off they go. No more printing and wasting paper. No more time spent cutting out. Never have to worry about losing it. More time to make coffee before class.

was born. Born from one teacher's inability to keep stuff.
