Board Games
Board games are great, but they can be limited. Ours are designed to be adapted to whatever you are teaching!
No need to prep. Using the smartphones of your students you will be able to mix and match questions and challenges without needing to cut up a single annoying little bit of paper. All you need to print is the board.
Take a look at the game boards and questions/challenges available below and see if you can make something that would fit the needs of your next class.
Note that this page is to view the content of question and challenge sets, and to download game boards. You'll need to head to you "Board Game Studio" page to put it all together.
Instructions
Below you will find:
-
Multiple Choice - Question sets covering a range of Grammar and Parts of Speech. Each set containing dozens of questions.
-
Challenges - From Grammar and Parts of Speech, to Pronunciation and Spelling.
-
Pronunciation challenges include Tongue Twisters covering a variety of English sounds. Students can judge each other, or they may want to use their teacher to judge their success.
-
Spelling challenges are split by level using the six point CEFR scale. If using spelling challenges, make sure the student answering the question does not see the phone screen! If the reader is unsure of the pronunciation, they can ask their teacher, or if the teacher is tied up, they can click the button and they will be taken to the Google definition with the option of playing the correct pronunciation on their phone.
-
Look out for game specific challenges like the "Stop! Grammartime" set. You won't want to miss those.
-
-
Discussion - For a less competitive class, we have a huge range of questions split by topic, just to get them chatting!
To view the content of a set, simply select it from the dropdown lists below and the content will be displayed in the box.
TIP: When using challenges, make sure to set your own time completion rules. For example:
-
Each challenge must be completed in 30 seconds.
-
Tongue Twisters must be said 3 times as fast as possible. Teacher/Partner/Group/Whole class to judge pass or fail.
Board Game Studio
All our questions and challenges can be viewed from this page, but things really come to life when used with your free "Board Game Studio" page.
This allows you to create a single page with up to six different challenge and multiple choice topics. Each topic can be chosen by you, and your students can access them with colour coded buttons matching the colours on our game boards. Head over there now and get creating. If you're not sure what this is, check out an example set below.
Example Topics: Adjectives -ED vs -ING, Prepositions of Time, Countable vs Uncountable, Present Simple, Pronunciation - 250 Hardest Words, Spelling - B1 (1)
Check out the content of our Multiple Choice Quizzes, Challenges, and Discussion Questions below. If you want to try the quiz or question set on your current device, hit "Let's Go". If you want to see it on mobile, hit "QR Code" and scan it with your smartphone.
These don't have to be used with a board game. Of course these sets are designed to be used with your "Board Game Studio" and the boards below, but any of the content you find here can be used as a stand alone activity with your class.
Why not give them a quick set of challenges to complete, a quick multiple choice quiz in small groups, or even just a gentle set of discussion questions to lead into a topic you are teaching?
